Beneficiary Information

A beneficiary is the person, family, organization, group, or cause intended to receive the benefit of funds raised through a campaign.

Raising Money for Someone Else

Campaign organizers may create a fundraiser on behalf of another person or eligible beneficiary.

When doing so, the organizer should clearly explain:

• Who the beneficiary is

• The organizer’s relationship to the beneficiary

• Why funds are being raised

• How the money is expected to be used

• Whether funds will be transferred directly to the beneficiary or managed by the organizer

Beneficiary Consent

When appropriate, organizers should have the beneficiary’s knowledge and permission before creating a public campaign on their behalf.

Campaign organizers should not publish private, sensitive, or misleading information about another person without proper authorization.

Accurate Information

Information about the beneficiary must be truthful and accurate.

Organizers should not misrepresent:

• The beneficiary’s identity

• The beneficiary’s circumstances

• The reason funds are needed

• The amount needed

• How donations will be used

Receiving Funds

Depending on the campaign setup, funds may be distributed to the organizer or directly to an approved beneficiary.

Identity, banking, and other verification may be required before payouts are completed.

Changes Involving the Beneficiary

If circumstances involving the beneficiary change, the organizer should update supporters when the change affects the purpose or use of campaign funds.

If the Beneficiary Cannot Receive Funds

If the intended beneficiary cannot receive funds directly, the campaign organizer may be responsible for properly managing and distributing the funds for the stated campaign purpose.

Organizations and Community Groups

Eligible organizations, community groups, and nonprofit entities may also be identified as campaign beneficiaries when permitted by platform rules.

Additional information or verification may be required.

Questions About a Beneficiary

Nativa Alliance Community Action may request additional information when necessary to verify the relationship between the campaign organizer and beneficiary or to review concerns about a campaign.

Responsibility

The campaign organizer remains responsible for ensuring that information about the beneficiary is accurate and that funds are handled according to the purpose described in the campaign.
