Campaign Closing & Completion

Campaign Closing & Completion

A campaign may be closed when the fundraising goal has been reached, the need has been resolved, the organizer chooses to stop fundraising, or the campaign is no longer active.

When to Close a Campaign

Campaign organizers may choose to close a fundraiser when:

  • The fundraising goal has been reached

  • The campaign purpose has been completed

  • The beneficiary no longer needs additional funds

  • The organizer decides to stop accepting donations

  • Circumstances have changed

  • The campaign is no longer active

Reaching Your Goal

Reaching the fundraising goal does not always require the campaign to close immediately.

If the campaign remains open, the organizer should make sure the campaign information accurately explains whether additional funds are still needed and how they will be used.

Closing Before Reaching the Goal

A campaign may be closed even if it has not reached its fundraising goal.

Funds already received may still be available for payout, subject to applicable verification, processing, refunds, disputes, and platform requirements.

Final Campaign Update

Before or after closing a campaign, organizers are encouraged to post a final update for supporters.

A final update may include:

  • Whether the fundraising goal was reached

  • How donations were used

  • How the campaign helped the beneficiary

  • A thank-you message

  • Any important final information

Remaining Campaign Funds

Campaign organizers remain responsible for using available funds consistently with the purpose described in the campaign.

If circumstances change and funds will be used differently, supporters should be informed when appropriate.

Pending Donations

Some transactions may still be pending when a campaign is closed.

Pending donations may continue through the payment-processing process before becoming available for payout or being declined.

Refunds and Disputes After Closing

Closing a campaign does not eliminate responsibility for:

  • Refund requests

  • Chargebacks

  • Payment reversals

  • Donor disputes

  • Verification requests

These matters may still affect the campaign balance after the campaign is no longer accepting donations.

Promotional Services

Any optional campaign promotion will normally end when the promotional period expires or when the campaign is no longer eligible for promotion.

Closing a campaign early does not automatically create a refund for promotional services that have already started.

Campaign Records

Campaign organizers should keep reasonable records related to the fundraiser, including campaign updates, payout information, receipts, and important communications.

Reopening a Campaign

If the platform allows campaigns to be reopened, the organizer may be required to confirm that campaign information is still accurate before accepting additional donations.
